Our Core Mission Pillars

The JPHA focuses on three essential areas to ensure a vibrant and secure community.

Beautification & Preservation

We manage neighborhood landscaping, maintain historic markers, and enforce zoning laws to preserve the unique aesthetic of our landmark district.

Public Safety & Advocacy

Funding for mobile patrols, positive loitering initiatives, and direct advocacy with the 3rd District Police and 5th Ward officials for neighborhood security.

Community & Social Events

We foster connection through annual events like the JPHA Fling, Holiday Crawl, and Neighbors Helping Neighbors initiatives.

A Chicago Landmark: The History of Jackson Park Highlands

Our neighborhood's unique story begins with the 1893 World's Fair, leading to a remarkable collection of architecture and a strong community spirit.

The Model Neighborhood Vision (Post-1905)

Commissioned in the early 20th century as model homes overlooking the historic Jackson Park, the neighborhood was designed with innovative urban planning concepts. This included **large front yard setbacks, strict 50-foot lot widths, underground utilities**, and famously, the complete **absence of alleys**. This careful planning ensured an exclusive, spacious, and beautiful community right from its inception.

*The Highlands are generally bounded by 67th St to 71st St, and Cregier Ave to Jeffery Blvd.*

Landmark Status & Notable Figures

It was officially designated a **Chicago Landmark District on October 25, 1989**, ensuring the protection of its architectural integrity. Our community has been home to many notable residents, including **Jesse Jackson, Ramsey Lewis, Bo Diddley, Enrico Fermi, and Gale Sayers.**
